For farmers, traders and cooperatives

What you can apply for online.

Seven services, from one account.

This is a non-functional prototype built for a tender. It runs on demonstration data and no application made here reaches the Department.

Register your holding

Your land, and what you grow or keep on it. Everything else starts here, because the other three services are attached to a registered holding.

What you need

  • Your national identity number
  • Where the land is, and roughly how big it is
  • What you grow, or what livestock you keep

What happens next

An agricultural officer checks the details and may visit. Once verified, the holding is registered and you receive its reference.

Apply for land

A plot of state agricultural land to farm, under a lease from the Department.

What you need

  • A registered holding, or an application for one
  • What you intend to farm on the plot
  • Which district you are looking for land in

What happens next

A land officer screens the application, then arranges a site assessment. The board decides, and a lease is drawn up if it is granted.

Apply for credit

A loan under one of the Department's agricultural credit schemes.

What you need

  • A registered holding
  • The amount you need and what it is for
  • Supporting documents for the scheme you choose

What happens next

A credit officer appraises the application. The credit committee decides, and the outcome is recorded against your file either way.

Ask for a veterinary visit

A visit from a livestock officer, either because something is wrong or as a routine check.

What you need

  • A registered holding
  • What animals are affected, and what you have noticed

What happens next

A livestock officer schedules the visit. What they find is recorded against your holding and stays in its service history.

Report a sick animal

A suspected disease in your animals, so the Department can investigate before it spreads.

What you need

  • Where the animals are
  • What you have seen, and how many animals are affected

What happens next

The report is registered as a surveillance case and assigned to an officer. Samples may be taken and sent to the laboratory.

Register as a market vendor

Selling produce at a market. For traders and cooperatives as well as individual farmers.

What you need

  • Your national identity number, or your business registration
  • Which market you want to sell at

What happens next

The Department reviews the registration and allocates a stall where one is available.

Ask for a laboratory test

Soil, water, plant tissue, compost or animal feed, tested by the Department's laboratory.

What you need

  • Where the sample comes from
  • What you want tested and why

What happens next

The laboratory arranges collection, runs the analysis and issues a certificate. You are notified when the result is ready.

What your account does

Your profile

Your name, contact details and district, kept up to date by you. Officers see the same record.

Your documents

Everything you upload and everything issued to you — leases, certificates, laboratory results — stored and searchable.

E-mail and SMS

You are told when an application moves stage and when a laboratory result is ready, by e-mail or text message.

Every application in one list

What stage each one has reached and which officer has it, from the day you apply to the outcome.

Your holdings and your figures

Your registered holdings, what you grow or keep on each, and your own totals across them.

On a phone

The portal works on a phone or a tablet, which is where most farmers will open it.

How it works

The same four steps whichever service you apply for.

Create your account

You register once, with your national identity number. The same account covers every service on this page.

Apply online

Each service asks only for what it needs, a step at a time, and saves as you go.

Follow it

Every application has a page showing which stage it has reached and who has it. You are notified when it moves.

Receive the outcome

A lease, a certificate, a laboratory result or a decision, issued to your account and kept with your documents.

Ready to apply?

Registering takes a few minutes and you need your national identity number to hand.
